    • Educated people need examples

    I was taking an online poll when I came across this question:

    Why would a person with a "Postgraduate degree" need a parenthetical that lists examples of postgraduate degrees?

    Wouldn't you think that people with postgraduate degrees would be well aware that their particular degree falls under that category?

    Well, I can think of one reason.


    Many people, after college, enrolling in continuing education courses and seminars. Many of these confer on the attendee all sorts of certificates, diplomas, etc. These awards are yours for the price of admission and many people who recieve them sometimes think that they are the equivilent of a post graduate degree - which they clearly are not.

    So, my guess is that the paranthetical is not intended as a guide for people who have recieved the degree, rather it serves to limit who will claim one of the degrees.
