More Liberal Signage
Madison liberals still aren't finished putting up "clever" signs to protest Bush's electoral victory. It's not as if I actually look for these signs. As I've said 1,000 times, I live in the looniest of lefty neighborhoods. This latest sign literally went up next door yesterday.

On one hand, good for them for accepting the fact that Bush actually won the election. But, on the other hand, "win the peace"? What exactly does that mean? Did my neighbors completely miss the elections in Afghanistan? No, that must not be it. They must think that the terrorists are "winning" in Iraq. While I'm sure the thousands of terrorists burning in hell right now would find that a little funny, I do have to say that if the terrorists are "winning" at all, it's because their actions scare the pants off ninnies like my next door neighbors and convince them that the only path to peace is through appeasement. Neville Chamberlain would be proud.

Your ability to ridicule the sign when you admit you're not sure what you mean by it is a little odd. The suggestion that the President win the peace isn't electioneering anymore (and, I would argue, never was). I'm sure I don't need to point out that our job is not done in Iraq (ironic, considering Bush proclaimed that the Mission was Accomplished long ago). Please don't denigrate valid political speech because of knee-jerk loyalty to the president - he has a job to do, and as citizens we have a responsibility to keep him on track, whether we support the man or not. There's no hidden attack on the president there unless you really want to see one. If you believe the peace must be won, then you agree - if you believe the peace is already won, you don't read the news. |

Actually, I intend to use my own free speech rights to denigrate whatever stupid comments I want to. Of *course* there's a hidden attack on the President. You expose it yourself with your "mission accomplished" comment. I suggest that you read about the situations in Germany and Japan in the mid-40s. Maybe you'll gain some perspective. |

Yitzhak your reference to the mission accomplished sign is dishonest to say the very least. You know or should that sign referred to the deployment of that ship which was the longest deployment of any carrier in history. It refered to the mission of that ship. How desperate. |

Mission of May 2003: remove Saddam Hussein from power. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Mission today: continue to help the Iraqis build a new free democracy. Do you want to help, or do you just want to stand on the sidelines and bitch? |

i'm guessing "stand on the sidelines and bitch" but then again, some folks say i'm cynical. |

Will someone PLEASE get through to these dickwads that no one - and I mean NO ONE - is abrogating their precious free speech? Of course they can say whatever they want. So can I. It just so happens that I use mine to make fun of theirs! And calling theirs at times "unpatriotic" isn't stopping them from talking - obviously. It's just speaking the truth. |
