50 Favorite Songs
John Hawkins at Right Wing News has a knack for making good lists. One of his latest is his "Top 50 Songs of All Time", a take off on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest songs. Hawkins notes that his list has nothing in common with the Rolling Stone list, so it's only fair to note that my list has nothing in common with his list.
Two quick notes:
1. I don't think these are the greatest songs ever, they're just my favorites right now. I could make this list tomorrow and it'd be different.
2. For my assorted siblings that read and comment here, a special note. There is no Bloodrock, no Ambrosia and no Pink Floyd on the list. If someone wants to bitch about that, they can make their own list ;-)
So, without further ado, here it is:
50. What About Now, by Robbie Robertson
49. In My Life, by The Beatles

Just a guess, but I get the feeling you like Paul Westerberg. I have no idea what my list would look like, but #1 would likely be "Brass In Pocket" by The Pretenders. |

Can I safely assume my copy of "Workbook" is on the east side of Madison? |

It is. In fact, I believe it still has the telltale masking tape on it. |

A wise person proposed, there are 2 types of people. I am the former. Not sure if it's exactly my #1 song, but Little Long-Haired Outlaw by Chris LeDoux is in my top 10. Almost 2 decades ago, when digital audio tracking was commercially available on VHS, I enumerated my top 179 tunes, and recorded them on 2 VHS tapes. Clearly, the most enjoyable 12 hours of uninterrupted sound in my collection - and friends still can't tell whether they're hearing the tape or the original CD - even when switching back and forth between the sources. I wish Madison had some decent music stations. I've been blowing out some GM speakers the last few months since The Brew 97.3 started broadcasting from Milwaukee. |

Between these two and the one Michele at ASV is doing, I might have to concoct my own list. Or maybe I'll just do my top 50 Old 97s songs since they're so far beyond my favorite band that no one else comes close. |

Drew, I'm continually humbled by your Old 97s knowledge. There's no way I could even name 50 songs by them. I think they're the "Amazing Race" of bands. They don't have a big fanbase, but the people who like them *really* like them and tell everyone they know. They get more fans almost strictly through word of mouth. |

I'm a nerd, what can I say? You're right, though, because their rfanbase is small but devoted. |

I've always thought there's people who love music enough to play it. I liked the rolling stone list actually, or at least I know why they picked what they did. i dont get whats wrong with it. |
