Navy's newest Seawolf Submarine: The USS Jimmy Carter
I'm sorry....
My mind is starting to explode with all of the comedic possibilities. What, will the sub break down in the middle of the ocean on its way to rescue operations? Will everyone on the sub have to wear sweaters? Instead of a morale officer, will the boat feature a "malaise official?" What if the sub comes across a rabbit in the water? Will there be a "moral equivalent to combat operations" on this sub?
These jokes just write themselves.

Carter is an ex president, and if memory serves, he was an officer on a nuclear sub. No different than an aircraft carrier named the Ronald Reagan. |

Doug, You're right, Carter served on a nuclear sub. You know, I have no problem with a sub being named after him - that's cool, as President he's earned that honor. But I'm still going to make fun of it. |

Just like I'll make fun of: the USS Lyndon Baines Johnson (God help the ship's dog...); the USS William Henry Harrison (They have to keep building a new ship every month); the USS Franklin Pierce (A perfect spy platform, since no one cares to know anything about it...); or the USS Benjamin Harrison (You can buy your way in...). I think the word I'm looking for here is irony. Carter having a warship named after him, considering his history, is too rich to ignore. |

Whatever his faults as President, he was a graduate of Annapolis and was the only President to qualify on submarines - and also completeted the Navy's nuclear power program. Before he was a politician, he served. Please keep that in mind. |

Since Jimmy Carter brokered the rip-off arrangement with the North Koreans, where we gave them billions in a quid pro quo for their lies about their nukes, can we give this submarine to the North Koreans for more lies that make us feel good? |

Anyone who served on a nuclear pig has earned his dues. Most people can't hack it. |

| It's truly amazing how some can take a person's political affiliations and twist it into something like an Al Cappone crime novel. Carter served honorably and was in the sub service and did quite well.
If you dislike his politics, fine. But why hate their service to their country too? Just another reason to see that ALL politicians and ALL those who follow them blindly are either neanderthals or just plain stupid. |
