  • Dummocrats' NCAA Basketball Pool

       March 13, 2005

It's Selection Sunday and, if you're like us, you'll be spending part of the next couple of days filling out your various brackets. So, why not add one more to the list. We are going to run a pool through Yahoo! You need to create a team here and then join the Dummocrats group. Our info is:

    Group ID: 35443
    Password: dummocrats

It's free to play and we will be giving a fabulous cash prize of $25 to the winner! We'll also throw in a fun, smaller prize. We're not sure what that'll be yet, so please throw some suggestions our way.

Yahoo doesn't count Tuesday's play-in game, so you have until Thursday morning to make your picks. The scoring system gives you one point for the first round, 2 for the second, 4th for the third and so on.

If you don't already have an account with us, we encourage you to get one now so you can join in with the smack talk in our General Chat thread.

    A few final notes:

    1. I always finish last in pools. So don't worry about competing with me.
    2. Since I'll have a team in the field, there's no way you can finish last, so even if you know nothing about basketball, have some fun and join us!
    3. Go Badgers!

To help you all out, CBS has a nice printable bracket here. And, if you're not a basketball fan, but still want to play (and please do!), CBS also has some expert picks that should help you fill out your bracket.

Update: We already have 14 teams signed up. Don't wait until the last minute, because our group is limited to 50 teams!.

All I can say after today's UW vs. Illini game, the Big 10 looks like they will be going out early this year...

Jeez, do I want to be a "homer" and pick 'nova?

    Aiii....

im kind of pumped about the uw-milwaukee 12 seed.... they're my pick to upset the 5

i think that'll be a popular 5/12 upset pick around here. it'll probably be shocking in your neck of the woods, though.

nah, i've already had one friend ask me about UWM, he has heard that they're pretty good. they have a 16-2 conference record and are 21-5 overall. they beat purdue. for whatever that's worth.

i see that they also beat butler twice - if you remember, 2 (3?) years ago #12 butler knocked off #5 florida

    it's in the cards

it'd be cool if they could win two games and then play Illinois, since I think Illinois' coach went there

i agree chummer, i don't expect b11g things out of the b11g ten. strangely, i think that iowa and minnesota are playing some great ball right now, and that illinois, michigan state, and wisconsin are all in trouble. does that seem too far out there?

    #  March 13th, 2005 9:32 PM      kris
I think you're grossly underestimating Illinois

    #  March 13th, 2005 9:51 PM      james
i know that illinois is good. they've only lost once, for badini's sake. but i dont know that they can get to the final 4. even if they do make it, i dont know that they go further.

    #  March 13th, 2005 9:55 PM      kris
i'm totally stealing the expression "for badini's sake" from you

I know little about NCAA basketball but even I am entering, for Badini's sake. Why don't you?

Full disclosure...if I win, I'm donating the $25 prize to the National Rifle Association.

    #  March 14th, 2005 4:29 PM      kilabe
I'm soooo going to win. And to continue the spirit of full disclosure, when I win, I'm going to donate the $25 to the Kilabe Foundation for Wayward Strippers.

full disclosure: if i win, i'm going to use the money to try buying vicodin over the internet.

    i could use some shoes.

hey, does anyone have any ideas for what our fun, mystery prize should be?

    #  March 15th, 2005 12:18 AM      james
    vicodin!

    a play-doh bust of me?
    dinner with lashawn barber?
    a framed photo of badini?

Alabama (!) and LSU lost. Kentucky won, Florida won, and I'm still saying prayers for Mississippi State. Mass intentions for sports scores are legitimate, right?
