  • The Guide to Appropriate Footwear

    Given the recent White House flip flop flap and my informal standing as something of a footwear expert, I thought I'd post a little something to help the ladies in the audience with their future footwear choices...

    If you have any specific footwear questions, I'd love to address them in the comments. :-)

    Dear Shoe Guru:
    Do I have to wear the pumps with the pointy toes? (Pumps are a given because I have ugly feet.) But the pointy toes are uncomfortable. There must be some other option. Please advise.

    Dear Laura,

    Absolutely not. And, as a matter of fact, round and square toes will again be popular picks this fall. Shoes like these below will still look nice but will be a little more comfortable than pointy toes. Or, you could go for a wedge with a round toe.

    Although, I have to say, I do own the pointy-toed pumps pictured above and they are very comfortable.

    Thanks! I dread and despise shoe shopping, but I really love the second shoe pictured. And I'm glad round toes are coming back.

    yeah, the second pair are great, but they're a little too pricey for my budget.

    Maybe I'll get lucky and Payless will do a variation of that one. I can't imagine paying more than $40 for a pair of shoes.

    My best shoe deal EVER: I got some LL Bean penny loafers at the Goodwill store in Portland (LL Bean donates unsold, new stuff to that store and they cut the tags off so they can't be returned at the LL Bean store) for $5.

    Oh dear. If you must buy cheap shoes, may I suggest Target as an alternative. They have some lovely round toe pumps.

    I must say - if I wore ANY of those shoes to the office, I'd get a lot of strange glaces!
