  • College Football Picks - Week Eight

       October 20, 2006

Last week was upset central in the top 25. Let's hope this week is a repeat (with one cardinal & red exception).

#19 Rutgers at Pittsburgh: Do you think Bill Cowher & Dave Wannstedt get mistaken for each other all the time? So anyway, I was wrong about Rutgers going down last week. Clearly, they're going down this week. Pittsburgh is 6-1 with their only loss coming to Big Ten powerhouse Michigan State (heh). Clearly the Panthers are poised to take down mighty Rutgers. It's gonna happen. The pick: Pittsburgh.

#5 Texas at #17 Nebraska: I thought Texas wasn't that good, but recent weeks have proven me wrong. I think the Longhorns, like the Badgers, are getting better and better as the season rolls on. Ohio State was lucky to get them at the start of the year. The pick: Texas.

#21 Wisconsin at Purdue: Wisconsin/Purdue games are the stuff of legends: Drew Brees throwing for 8 million yards under the lights at Camp Randall, Wisconsin's miraculous comeback in Lafayette a couple of years ago. Good times, good times. Wisconsin is turning into a powerhouse. P.J. Hill is a stud running back (fifth in the nation), the young receivers are learning how to catch (Cup it. Hug it. CATCH it.) and John Stocco makes all the right decisions. I wish we played Ohio State this year. As it is, we have to settle for beating the Boilermakers. The pick: Wisconsin.

Iowa at #2 Michigan: I'm torn. As a Badger fan, I want Michigan to lose now and then beat Ohio State. As a Big Ten fan, I get a little thrill out of seeing our teams ranked 1-2. As I said weeks ago, I think Michigan is the best team in the country and I think Iowa is overrated. This will be an easy victory for Big Blue. The pick: Michigan.

#13 Clemson at #12 Georgia Tech: Why is Georgia Tech ranked so high? Is it just because they lost to Notre Dame? I think so. Since then they have victories over Samford & Troy, who sound more like 70s sitcom characters than major colleges. Sure, they beat Virginia Tech, but I don't think much of them either. Clemson, on the other hand, has been a revelation. Last year every game was a nailbiter. This year, they're winning big. They already took care of one pretender in Wake Forest. They'll take care of Yellow Jackets next. The pick: Clemson.

I'm sick of hearing how great the SEC is this year. The SEC sucks this year. Michigan is the most underrated team out there IMHO.

i cant imagine how a team ranked at #2 can be "the MOST underrated", bv. heh.

oh, hey- my biker friends tell me that "it's looking more and more like landis is innocent." score one for the amish.

Landis is done. Even more interesting are the IM's between Frankie Andreu and Jonathon Vaughters from last year. Cycling is in trouble and American cycling is in big trouble.

Michigan is usually overrated by 10-15 spots. This year they are not. they should be #1.

god, b/t kris all of a sudden liking the bears, kris arguing that the rankings are accurate and that the badgers are not in fact underrated, and now the two of you in love with michigan, i think that there may be some sort of latent genetic defect in the p clan that only appears later in life.

I hate Michigan with a passion, but this year they are finally not overrated. I hope OSU beats them, but I don't see it happening.

Even more strange is that John Stocco might be the next Tom Brady.

I'm getting in on this one kind of late, but the SEC doesn't suck. It kicks...an alternative name for ugly equines.

All this hate. Dang am I at a DNC convention here? Where's Howard Dean and Babs? Any Baldwins? Wow, the free love folks have left the building. :)

Come on, admit it. We all LOVE the amaize-n-blue and hope they beat Hitler (OSU) this year! :p

    Ok, let's try this week:

Rutgers vs. Pitt. Major pillow fight. Gosh, it's who knows vs who cares.. I guess I'll go with who knows (Rutgers).

Texas vs Nebraska. This one's easy. Nebraska can be ranked 100 and they'd be overrated. Texas by 20. Maybe 25. Not that I think Texas is that good. I think OSU would kill them again. But Nebraska is that bad.

Wisconsin vs Purdue. Wisconsin likes to score and Purdue couldn't stop a statue. Not a good combination for Purdue. It will be a shootout, but since Wisconsin can stop Purdue at least a couple times, Wisconsin by 14.

Clemson vs Ga Tech. 70's sitcom? That's funny. Good one Kris. I think this one is going to be a good game. I really think that Tech's close call against Satan (Notre Dame) was a mark for Tech and not against Satan. Tech by 4.

UM vs Iowa. A little history lesson. Over the last 20 years, when it has mattered to Michigan, Iowa has owned them (1997 being the exception). It has nothing to do with who's better, or if UM is overrated. It has everything to do with that karma, fate, ownership, etc. If UM was once beaten and out of the hunt, they'd kill Iowa. They're not. It matters. With that in mind this UM fan will go with his head over his heart and pick Iowa on a last second FG which is how they usually beat us in those games that destroy our hopes and dreams. How I hate them...

In other games of interest, Hitler over Indiana by 30, Satan over UCLA by 10, BC over Felony State U in the game that will make Bobby Bowden think of retiring. Upsets: Washington over Cal, Bama over Tenn.

    Have a good weekend everyone.
