  • Vital Idol – Welcome to the House of Bad Song Choice

       February 28, 2007

PMW back in the saddle, all alone, without my Idol soldier, Kris. Luckily, fiancé has graciously agreed to sit through another show with me. True love! Speaking of true love, Shecrest is starting to dress like he has a serious man-crush on Dick Clark. On with the show:

Gina Glocksen – This song goes out to her boyfriend Joe. And it’s “Alone” by Heart. Which is totally on a Monsters of Rock album somewhere, but also a duet, and she totally sounds like Kelly Clarkson. Powerful chorus, but the harmonies are pretty retched. And she looks a bit like a Mexican hooker, but I still like it, even though she’s kind of bitchy. I think she’ll keep bringing in the votes.

Alaina Alexander – Girl done lost her fricking mind. Natalie Maines is a phenomenal singer, and she is not. Plus she’s broken a key ISCC, song sung by a group. If she’s lucky, boys have it on mute and will vote for her because she’s pretty. The arrangement was also terrible. Bad, bad, bad.

Lakisha – This song goes out to Gramma in FLINT. Lakisha’s looking good tonight. Nice color shirt and good hair. She’s rocking “Midnight Train to Georgia,” but it’s a little boring. She really needs to investigate the top 40 soon. Damn, even the backup singers look bored.

Melinda Doolittle – This song goes out to her vocal coach and her stylist (who should be killed.) Sounds great, but what’s with all the old shit? Has Idol tapped in to the coveted geriatric voter demographic without me knowing? Still, great sexytime with the camera and vocal acrobatics. And she doesn’t make voter number gang signs. Sweet.

Barbarella – Looking cute in a Brady-inspired dress. Oh hell no, bitch thinks she can sing CELINE. I think she’s gone mental. And her mom looks crazy. Wow. Uninspired, boring and out of key. Please send her home.

Jordin – Awwww, she’s so cute. I wish she was better than she is. I think this is an Xtina song. Wow, how sad and depressing and opposite of her personality. Nice bridge, but I still think she’s Grade A high school musical material.

Stephanie Edwards – Interesting evening gown. Bad song choice, any other Beyonce choice would have been better. But it’s from the 00s, sing I’ll give her props. I really hope she sticks around longer than Barbarella and Alaina.

Dogwalker – I really hate her face, style and image. And she’s decided to sing Nina Simone. I’m not sure if the dogs told her that it sounded good, but I think not. She is totally like a tough Chicago girl singing in a bar band, then going to work her shift at the Polish sausage shop (sorry, Kris). And she thinks she can scat. WTF? Fiance thinks she’s missing some chromosomes.

Haley Scarnato – Very pretty, all-American girl. But like many women in the crew, she done lost her mind thinking she could sing a Whitney song. Before all the crack and Bobby Brown, Whitney was a fantastic singer. This girl is not. This is awful, I’m surprised the backup singers made it through this one without laughing.

Sabrina Sloan – This song goes out to her soon-to-be deceased Gramma. I really like this song, her hair and face. Good energy, but she’s just not as good as Whitney. Still, she’s better than Scrubnato.

Top 3 – Melinda, Lakisha, Gina
Bottom 4 – Alaina, Barbarella, Haley, Leslie

i don't think i can come up with a top anyone for this. they were all awful. end the talk about "the women being better than the men" this year - it's clearly not true, seeing as how all of them suck. yes, ALL of them.

LaKisha sucked the least. That said... um, what else is there to say? I think that second best has to go to Haley (or was it sabrina?) who sang a song that at least didnt sound like every other lame ass power ballad.

PMW, you're right, gina will be around for a while, but not because she's any good. She has the young, thinking they're hip, 20-40 year old, "man i am so unhappy with where i am in life, though i know i could change it all if i just went on idol, but i love my 2 year old so much that i won't do that to him" vote locked up.

Karaoke rock stars always make the finals.

Melinda separated herself from the others tonight, she was best by a mile. Any of the others, including Lakisha, could go home tonight.

I don't get the Melinda love at all. I didn't think her audition was that great and I haven't really liked any of her performances on the show either.

I think my problem with the women is that I have no interest in listening to R&B. I thought Gina was easily the best last night and that Leslie was probably the most interesting.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are both gone tonight, however.

Gina and Leslie were interesting, and Gina will be back, I think. Melinda showed something other than the standard R&B scream/I'm a diva crap. Lakisha and Stephanie, her competition for a spot in the finals have thus far shown no ability to get beyond that. Stephanie was rather dreadful last night, I thought.

Wow, I still had the shivers from Sanjaya from Tuesday. When will the nightmares end. Michael Sanjaya Jackson is coming for me. AAAAAAAHHHHH.

Gina - Dang. Has a tongue ring. Automatic loss of votes. Please eliminate her. Fast. Please.

Alaina - What are you thinking? Dixie Chicks? There's a significant part of the audience who will hate all things Maines (I'm not one of them). Combine that with the fact it wasn't that good a job. Bottom for you babe.

LaKisha. Wow. Just Wow. that was great. Winner so far.

Melinda: Wow(er). Better. Melinda sounded like she could have taken that right off her album. Totally in control and so good. As she gets more comfortable she'll get better. Baring a major problem, we may already have our winner. She's good and not cocky. She's just so darn likeable. That's going to be hard to beat.

Antonella: Wow, did she get a single note on key? One? Anywhere? I don't know if the bad week took it's toll, but she may not be worried about singing many more weeks with that kind of performance.

Jordin: A cuter version of Lisa Tucker. Did a good job. If Leslie gets voted off, she will become my "I'm shallow" vote recipient.

Stephanie: Everyone on the live blog yesterday thought she was good. I didn't agree. She will probably hold on by those skinny legs of hers though.

Leslie: Sigh. Sigh. She gets hotter every week. Dang she knows how to dress hot. Oh, wait, she sang? Let me rewind the Tivo and watch again. Sigh. Rats, daydreamed through it again. Oh well, it's Leslie and I don't care how she sounded. I'm shallow and she's got my vote.

Haley: Maybe I was still having to wake from my Leslie daydream, but she didn't impress me. Still, someone has to stay and she probably will.

Sabrina: Managed a decent job at the ending song. Not bad. You'll be here next week.

VFTW has Sundance and Antonella in their sights and looking at Dial Idol, it worked. DI has Leslie, Gina, Stephanie and Haley on the bottom as well as Brandon, Nick, AJ and Chris R for the guys. I wish it was Sanjaya going, but probably not. As long as it isn't Leslie, then I don't care.

Kris - You always love my R&B, what happened?

J - When are you gonna get a podcast feature so we may do Idol podcasts?

MDTH - The Dogwalker, seriously? Am I missing something?

    And excellent taste Big Bro.

PMW, no you're not missing anything. I have a couple screws loose, no doubt. :) What can I say, I'm a Wolverine fan and start each season with hope. If that doesn't say screw loose, nothing does! :)
