  • American Idol Results Recap - Brandon Voted Off

       March 14, 2007

The night kicks off with a recap and a medley. I missed last night's show, so this is my first glimpse of Sanjaya's hair. Ha! During the Diana Ross medley, two singers actually made me look up from my computer because they sounded good: Blake & Sligh (I know, I can't believe it either).

And the bottom three are...Brandon, Phil and....

Diana Ross is in the house. I'm unimpressed, unmoved and uninterested, even though she's wearing orange feathers. You'd think the orange feathers would get to me, but I'm stronger than you think.

Sanjaya joins the bottom three to cheers. Sanjaya? Really? I doubt the Dial Idol folks are that far off.

Phil is safe, so America either hates the boring or the creepy. And, to gasps from the crowd, Sanjaya is safe and Brandon Rogers is going home. Oh come on, did you really think Sanjaya would get voted off already? Remember John Stevens & Kevin Covais, my friends.

No, I am not surprised. In the early weeks, the first slot (named the "dead mans spot" in AI circles), is almost a gaurantee "go home" ticket. Add to it that he didn't rock the house and that Melinda sang next and made everyone forget him.

When you have to go first, you have to stand out big time. You have to bring the hous down so that when others go, they think, well, not as good as so and so. When you have a forgetable performance, you get forgotten. Brandon was forgotten.

Sanjaya in the B2 tells me that my prediction of him going 9th or 10th maybe off. Looks like next week for him. Vote For The Worst has lost any credibility they may have had.

Congrats on the W for the Badgers. The Big 10 did well Thurs and Fri and quite frankly, if Illinois blow a 13 point lead by turning over the ball 5 of 7 trips, the B10 would be undefeated in round 1.

Good Grief, I did graduate college, despite the many typos above. Sorry about that.

Big Ten 5-1, not bad for a sucky, overrated conference, huh? Let's hope Ohio State can pull this one out against Xavier.

They did! AND MICHIGAN FIRED AMAKER! THIS DAY IS AS GOOD AS IT CAN GET!!!!

We will be in the NCAA's soon!!!

Everything else today is gravy. Well, except MSU winning. That would be great too!

Hmmm, so who are their candidates to replace him? I've heard Tom Crean, but what about Tony Bennett?

I want Marshall from Winthrop. Winning is winning. If you can win in one college division, you have what it takes to move up. Case in point Tressel. Marshall took an average Winthrop team and have taken them to seveal tournaments even giving their conference their first ever tourney win when they beat Notre Dame. He can recruit and coach and if he got the Michigan job, he would bring that to us. ESPN had a list of the coaches.

Amaker was a decent human being and I don't really want to revel in his misery, but he does get a check for 900K on his way out the door. And nice guy aside, he lost way too many in state recruits and had too many late season collapses. He hasn't taken UM to a tournament. I know he took over a mess, but it is Michigan and a tourney invite is expected and should have happened at least once in 6 years. He'll be working soon enough though.

As I said above, Amaker is a decent guy. As proof, he called the recruits after being fired and encouraged them to stay at UM. How many people do you know would have done that? I hope he lands somewhere that his style will work.

MSU gave UNC a great run but ran out of gas in the last few minutes. Indiana is trying to come back on UCLA, but I doubt they will.

    Go Badgers and Purdue...

Sorry Kris (and the other Badger fans here).

Thanks. They just got outplayed today. I'll miss Taylor & Tucker, but we get Stiemsma, Butch, Landry, Flowers, Krabby, Bohannon & Hughes back. Maybe Nankivil will be able to come in and score next year.

Anyway, it was a great season with a horrible ending. The spring football game is in a few short weeks!
