  • Vital Idol - British Invasion

       March 20, 2007

    Then there were 11

British Invasion night? Now I understand Shecrest’s wardrobe for the entire season – he’s been warming up for BI night. Lulu (“To Sir, With Love”) and Peter Somethingorother (“Mrs. Browne, I Want to Bang Your Daughter) are helping the kids tonight. I predict the people who can sing, will do well and the people who are tone-challenged will suck the monkey.

Scrubnato – “Tell Him.” Lulu nicely told her to work with her lousy voice and to go staccato – EG, honey, you can’t sing, so you better work it. And it’s another lousy high-school caliber talent show performance. But, her legs look great despite the formal shorts and she has nice hair. Sweet Jesus, America, please vote her out, we don’t need another DeGarmo.

JT.2.0 – “Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Cryin’.” Ohhhhh, it’s an acoustic joint. I think he gets a bit uglier every week, but I’m an old lady with discerning taste and a fondness for the razor. He’s sooooo safe this week.

Stephanie – “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me.” Bad song choice, this is so not in her key. It’s way to high, I don’t think she has enough teeth to pull this off, and she’s wearing a sweetheart neckline. Ick. I think she may be gone this week.

Blake – “Time of the Season.” And Paula’s found her manmeat for the season. He sounds good, but he looks a bit red. I really just can’t see a mainstream beatboxer selling records. I used to be in the Blake camp, but I think I’m starting to grow weary of his tricks.

LaKisha – “Diamonds Are Forever.” Well, straightaway I can guess Simon will tell her her outfit looks bad. The vocals are good, but a bit boring and the band sounds like they’re playing for a porno movie. She’s still miles better than the rest of the crew so far.

Dumbo – “Tobacco Road.” Frat boy sings drunken karaoke. The end.

Jordin – “I Love Nothing?” She looks like she’s about to forget the words. Nice tone, good style, excellent use of vibrato. I think she’s showing up everyone else so far this show.

Sangaya – “You Really Got Me.” Wow. So bad, but at least he doesn’t look like a child molester this week. Word on the street is the Howard Stern is trying to do his version of vote for the worst with him.

Gina Clarkson – “Paint it Black.” Lulu must hate her. This is a bad key for her. Worst yet for Gina.

Chris Sligh – “She’s Not There.” Good song choice. I was worried he’s do “Cumbaya” or “Joy to the World.” A bit of a slow start, but he picked it up a bit on stage. He could have enunciated better, but otherwise, it’s OK. Amen.

Melinda – “As Long As He Needs Me.” Apparently her stylist has been reading my reviews and has styled her as the anti-Jackee this week. Vocally it’s very good, but boring. And what’s with the crying girl in the audience? Is she being paid? She’s safe.

    Boot – Stephanie
    Dream Boot - Scrubnato

It was actually a really good show tonight.

Scrubnato rocked the formal shorts. She's still a pageant girl, but a slightly more appealing one.

Timberfake: meh, you're right, he's not even cute anymore.

Stephanie: BORING. I think she's gone.

Blake: very cool but I think his singing suffers when he tries to do anything other than sing.

LaKisha: so, so, so boring and syrupy tonight.

Phil: bar band singer-if Stephanie's not gone, he will be.

Jordin: easily the best of the night. I almost want to vote for her. She sings with passion and emotion, which a very precious few Idol contestants have ever been able to do. Wow.

Sanjaya: awesome. everything about it was just awesome TV, from the sobbing little girl in the audience to his sister laughing at him to Simon's bewildered response. Hilarity. God, I hope he stays another week.

Gina: I heart Gina, but this was terrible. She's not boring like Stephanie or LaKisha or Doolittle, but she's too in love with being a rocker chick. Clarkson didn't rock out until after she won. Gina needs to remember that.

Sligh: pretty good, but he's so obnoxious and Simon clearly hates him. I can't imagine that another person Simon hates will win.

Doolittle: I used to think she was just boring, but now I'm starting to actively hate her because of all the praise she gets for being utterly ordinary.

    Voted off: Stephanie

SLIGH yelled out "Hi Dave!" after his performance, while talking to Ryan. The judges all looked mad, and when Ryan asked what was up, Simon said "We'll talk about it later."

It was a shout out to VFTW.

This is a reminder to Chris:

Tuesday is coming, and this will be your final chance to reclaim your manhood. Remember, two simple words:

    "HI DAVE"

Say these two words and I swear I will never bash you or call you a pussy again and that I'll use whatever influence I have to get you votes. Don't say these two simple words, however, and I will endlessly bash and humilate you until you are voted off the show.
The ball's in your court, chubby.

    that is seriously awesome.
    awesomer than me even.

My worst to first for the night:

    11. Sanjaya - Freakshow is going to hang around another week or 2. That crying girl is why. The Hello Kitty phones were cranking last night.

    10. Chris R - He's going home. He sucked and looks creepy. I've seen mass murders look friendlier.

8t. Gina - Tongue bar girl is trash, but has the rocker vote. She'll be in the final 4.

8t. Jordin - Thought it was Jordin's weakest performance. I really like her though. She's top 6 material and has a decent enough fan base to carry her there.

    7. Blake - I despise beat box boy almost as much as Sanjaya. I hope he goes home early, but don't expect him to.

    6. Steph - Sam's Choice singer. Meaning cheap generic copy of a better original. Didn't do badly, but is too forgetable to last. I think she may go before Haley.

    5. LaKisha - She'll be the surprise early departure you see every year. She's been falling a bit lately. In the beginning people were asking who is better her or Melinda. We know now.

    4. Chris S. - Not bad. Did ok. Way better than last week.

    3. Phil - Did ok, but is in trouble. He's creepy and has no fan base. Going 3rd from last may keep him another week.

    2. Haley - Did you see those legs? Them boobs? Yeah, she'll be around. The teenage vote will come to her rescue (pun intended). To her credit, she did a real good job on the song. I liked what I heard before I turned and liked what I saw. Honest I did. Really, I'm cereal, I really did. Fine, don't believe me. See if I care!

    1. Melinda - Why is this woman on this show and not already on an album. Actually, I know that answer to that. Confidence. This tour on Idol is helping her there. As she gets more confident, she'll get better. And that is very bad news for everyone else.

Who will be in the B3: Phil, Chris R and Sanjaya.

Who Should: Sanjaya, Chris R and Gina.

Chris R having gone second and done poorly will be going home.

VFTW rots. They think themselves influential, but none of their backed candidates have stayed this year. Don't bring up Sanjaya, he's there because the Hello Kitty vote. Pre teen girls. Don't try to understand it. We're talking pre-teens.

Before Sanjaya, it was Antonella and Sundance, and BOTH went home the week they backed them. The week before it was Alaina. The next vote, she's gone. They haven't saved anyone yet. The more I look at it, they didn't save anyone last year either and I am really doubting that they did much for Salvo the previous year which was their supposed claim to fame.

Sanjaya won't last much longer as the pre-teens are the only ones voting for him, but it may take a couple consolidating vote offs before it happens.

oh, i'm sure that vftw has no influence at all. it's a simple numbers game. but it's pretty cool that chris gave them a shout out. ;0)

i predict that phil or gina is out.
