  • Jesus, Take the Idol

       April 17, 2007

Lord help us, it’s country night.

Phil – “Where the Blacktop Ends” – The obvious question is why no cowboy hat? Sounds OK. I’m not a huge fan of this song, but he could be doing a much worse job. Safe!

Jordin – “Broken Wings” – Sounds good, but that is the ugliest dress ever. Nice weave though. As Randy says, it’s a little pitchy, but still enough to keep her safe. I think junior may just win the whole thing.

Sanjaya – “Something to Talk About” – Ladies and gents, it’s the Indian Willie Nelson! Well, not really. I like his outfit and he looks a lot less creepy this week. Sounds good enough. Lord, please let him win the whole thing!

Lakisha – “Jesus Take the Wheel” – Yeah! A song from this decade. She looks good tonight and has wisely chosen a dark dress and a past Idol song. Wow. She’s rocking it. Best of the night so far.

Chris – “Mayberry” – J Sweet T. Goodbye, honey. Goodbye. But wait, he sends a shout-out to V-Tech, which may sway the pity vote. I hope he’s not using a national tragedy to win another week on Idol.

Melinda – “Trouble is a Woman” – Good. A little garbled, but still very good and hugh energy. I will even ignore the longline tubetop.

Blake – “Stars Go Blue” – I think I’ve just pinpointed my dislike for Blake. He reminds me of a high school boyfriend. Nice guy, good personality, but no fire … And damn he pitchy, dogs. He is wrecking this song.

    Boot: Chris
    Dream Boot: Blake

Woo Hoo! Country night. Martina? They settled for Martina? Wasn't Pick Pickler available? Come on, get a real name. Just kidding. Take the blood pressure pills. :)

Phil, not too bad, but going first hurts. He needs a better performance to get out of the bottom 3. Or, he needs someone other than Sanjaya to do worse.

Jordin took the twang out of the country song. Well done. She looked kind of stiff and not her best dress look either, but still, safe from the bottom 3. Jordin is making her run at just the right time. She has been gaining momentum each week and may very well be one of the last 2.

Freakshow up. I've seen things in my cat's litter box that look better than this sounds. Yuck. Just awful. Still, the hello kitty votes will carry him at least 2 more weeks.

LaKisha trying Carrie Underwood. Ok, make a note, Gladys Knight style bellowers should never do a song that requires something other than screaming into the mic. Really, the horror show witch could have cackled this as good. Her star has been falling and don't be surprised if Sanjaya outlasts her. She may go home next week.

Chris R just saved LaKisha from the bottom three. Yuck. Just yuck. Phil and Chris have been avoiding the reaper until now. This week one gets it.

Melinda. Not as bad as the others. Ok, maybe she did good. I don't know. All I know on Melinda is that if she drops that "What, you like me" mask, she'll walk away with the title. Heck she will probably anyway.

Blake in the pimp spot. When you go last, you’re almost always safe unless you really blow it. He’s not blowing it. It was actually decent. I think he is starting to make a significant run at the top. He may be a contender yet. No beat boxing either. Wow. Top of the night.

After all that, here's the worst to first:

    7. Sanjaya
    6. LaKisha
    5. Chris
    4. Jordin
    3. Phil
    1t. Blake
    1t. Melinda

The bottom 3 should be Sanjaya, LaKisha and Chris, but it will be Sanjaya, Chris and Phil. Phil will stay around based on his stronger performance and better fan base. Chris will go home. Sanjaya will go home in 3 weeks.
