  • American Idol Results Recap - LaKisha Voted Off

       May 09, 2007

You can tell this is a fillerific show because 15 minutes in, nothing has happened. The promo for the Idol tour shocked me. I can't believe how much Phil grew on me in the last few weeks. I got all giddy during the clip of him singing "Blaze of Glory".

Pink comes out looking like a more masculine version of Jackie from "Work Out". She's singing some boring song boringly, so it gives me time to surf over to bravotv.com and notice that tonight's Shear Genius looks awesome! It looks like a bunch of long-haired rocker dudes are gonna get their hair cut. Watch out for Tabatha guys. She's fierce.

Medley time! Uh, is Blake's microphone on? Ah, these are all of my favorite Bee Gee's songs, but this foursome doesn't have the right mix of voices to make it work. This pales in comparison to Blake's fantastic group performance back in Hollywood Week.

Results time! Jordin is safe. And then suddenly Barry Gibb performs. WTF? Why is this show so long and disjointed? Thank god there are just a couple of weeks left. Melinda is safe too. Blake & LaKisha are left, but note that Ryan doesn't say this is the bottom two because according to Dial Idol Blake was the top vote getter. And yep, LaKisha is gone.

next week will likely be a "shocker" when melinda gets sent home. though she is clearly better than blake, he's got the votes.

LaKisha and Melinda were battling over the same votes and now that one is gone, Melinda will get most of LaKisha's votes and Jordin will get the rest. That should leave Blake out in the cold. Of course, when you're down to the final 3, dialing doesn't matter. All 3 will get roughly the same amount of dial in votes because there will only be 3 lines per person and they will be slammed all 4 hours of voting. It's the texting that will carry the top 2. Last year, while Katherine's folks were urging dialing till you drop, Taylors fans had stores setting up free texting from their display cell phones.

Think about that last sentence... People take this show way too seriously...

i disagree, themandownthehall. i think that lakisha voters are anti-melinda. ergo, they will vote jordin or blake, if they bother to vote at all.

my theory is that when you have 2 similar candidates, people tend to to vote "against" the other moreso than they vote "for" the one they actually support. see, eg, 2004 election, 2000 election, 1996 election. ;-)

Do you think people stop voting when their favorite is voted off at this point?

I was thinking about last year and I feel like the Daughtry voters quit when he left. There wasn't a big swing to Elliott, Katherine or Taylor. If you remember the final three got an almost equal amount of votes. If the Daughtry voters had switched en masse to someone else that wouldn't have happened.

James, I know this sounds cynical as heck, but here goes. The swing chunk of votes I was talking about will not vote for Blake under any circumstances. Jordin, having black and white parents, will be deemed not black enough and will be "Obama'ed" by them leaving Melinda as the black idol they can support. The rest of LaKisha's voters outside that swing chunk will split amongst them.

Of course, I don't think it will matter much. LaKisah's voters will be met with busy signals for the most part no matter who they support. At this point, you will have 20 million people jamming the phones lines. People trying to vote at this stage are often met with busy signals. Only so many will get through and roughly the same amount will for each. It's why the votes are always so close at this stage. It will be the texting that carries the others over one to be eliminated.

That chunk of votes I was talking about above (black young adults and teens) will have plenty of cell phones amongst them and will be texting like crazy. It is my guess they will text for Melinda and to a much lesser extent Jordin. Sending Blake home.
