A Message from Steve Nehls
Last week, I wrote a post about a letter to editor from high schooler Karly Nehls. While I was hard on Karly because of the totalitarian aspects of her proposal, I mocked her in the nicest way possible. However, Karly's brother, Steve Nehls, took exception to my post. He really took exception. I received the following email from him yesterday (please pardon the vulgarity):
Hey Mother Fucker. Yeah Kris with a K, thats kinda girly now, isn't it. Anyways, You and your fairy little "dummocrats" web-blog thing is really cool. Wow, you and your 40 year old ass managed to pick on my 10th grade sister through the internet, ya dick. You took an article of hers, that she had to write for school, for an American Literature class, and wrote some fucking gay shit about it. It made her feel pretty bad to read what you had to say about her article that was just an assignment for school. She didn't even know that it was going to be published. It was the one about online poker or something. Wow, I didn't know there were people as gay as you out in this world; picking on young girls to get your jollies-off. Your a fucking whore who should and WILL burn in hell. Have a great day now! Dont fuck too many guys up the butt today!Sincerely,
Her BrotherP.S: There are help groups for this kind of thing. And for your problem with fisting other guys...!!! ;)
But oh, there's more. Steve also registered on this site with the lovely name "krislikesdick" and posted the following comments (James was nice enough to delete them):
Wow, i wonder if anyone knows that this Kris is gay and tries to force guys to have gay sex with him...????? Hmmm...
Oh, you just wait. You and your sad, sad life are both going to be exposed throughout the next year or so! Keep in touch! Well, i know you will, with other guys i mean.
Do you have anything better to do than write on these stupid blog things. Your life must suck big time. Well, i know YOU suck big time, but your life must suck even worse. Have fun making fun of young girls and later with your "Special Partner"... aka: Men
So yeah, this really isn't doing anything to bolster my opinion of the intellectual prowess of the Nehls family. However, what it does do is make me a little afraid for my safety. I'm seriously considering contacting the Police Department about this.
And really, Steve, if you're going to send a letter to the editor, or post comments on a website or send hateful emails to strangers, you have to understand that sometimes people will disagree with you. Sometimes they'll mock you. And sometimes, they'll even link to your picture. It's hard to be anonymous on the Internet. I hope Steve is ready to stand by his comments, because with the power of Google, you can't "un say" anything anymore.

| wow, this steve nehls has some major homophobia issues, eh?
i think you're right to be concerned. the comments were posted a few days ago. now this email comes in today. the guy is clearly obsessed and quite possibly deranged. i recommend filing a police report with both the madison and deforest police departments. some of the comments are prima facie threats, and the timeframe (over several days) is beginning to amount to harassment. |

| Well, Steve's language was unfortunate.....and probably a bit immature. And he certainly wasn't cognizant of the transparency of the Internet. Still, there was a time when email communication was private and posting was public. Apparently before the importance of hits on a blog.
As far as "the intellectual prowess of the Nehls family"......I couldn't help but notice your picture link to Norske pride was for Student of the Month. Pity the discussion wasn't more to the point of Karly's article. She was right. |

It's possible they're more aware of the "entire body of work" than yourself. True? |

Well, Steve's language was unfortunate.....and probably a bit immature. immature? try threatening, hate-filled, and of dubious legality. And he certainly wasn't cognizant of the transparency of the Internet. He wasn't aware that he would have to answer for the words that he signed his name to? that's not an "internet" phenomenon, that's called "real life." Still, there was a time when email communication was private and posting was public. There was never a time that threats were "private." Apparently before the importance of hits on a blog. Ha. Believe me, no one cares about hits on this blog. As far as "the intellectual prowess of the Nehls family"......I couldn't help but notice your picture link to Norske pride was for Student of the Month. College recruiters take note: This is the creme de la creme of the Deforest school system. Pity the discussion wasn't more to the point of Karly's article. No, the pity is that Steve-O apparently thinks that the opening salvo in a discussion is to make inferences and attack his opponent's sex and sexuality. Maybe "ha, ur gay! try not to fuck too many guys!" passes as logic in DeForest, but I think that you'll find that it doesn't play well in the rest of the world. |

| Pretty much guessing you're out of your element here, james........but show me the threats and legal issues. |

| Kris, here's a little advice, courtesy of a nice old man who shares your love of horse racing: Never get involved in a pissing battle with a skunk. You'll both end up stinking, but the skunk won't care.

| I don't think this is a "pissing battle". I want to embarrass this person so they don't send me more hate filled manifestos and they don't do crap like this again to anyone else. |
| # November 8th, 2007 3:31 PM james |
it's the vile and hatred that is spewing out of this person that concerns me, along with the fact that he's been sending crap like this for 2 days.
"Your a fucking whore who should and WILL burn in hell. Have a great day now! Dont fuck too many guys up the butt today!" "You and your sad, sad life are both going to be exposed throughout the next year or so! Keep in touch! " This person isn't stable, and his anger is only getting worse with each passing day. His own words state that he plans on waging some sort of looney-guy battle over "the next year or so" to "expose" kris for something or other. If I were Kris, I wouldn't want to be looking over my shoulder for the next year or so, waiting for this nutjob to strike, and send me to "Hell." Again, I urge you to file a police report. This is not sane behavior. |
| # November 8th, 2007 4:10 PM Squibbly |
| I don't necessarily think that its a nut job waiting to strike. It sounds more to me like an immature angry kid, using what he felt like was the anonymity of the internet to threaten someone who hurt his sister's feelings. Maybe I'm over simplifying and I have only read what you've posted here. But hey, to be on the safe side, do they allow concealed carry over there in WI? |
| # November 8th, 2007 8:22 PM themandownthehall |
| I tend to agree with Squibbly. The kid loves his sister and defended her by lashing out in the way a know it all teenager does. Having had one go through my house (my oldest is 22), I can tell you that this is pretty typical mindless teenage stuff.
Still, a police report may smack some reality into him. Reminds me of when my oldest was assaulted. He was sucker punched in school and laid out. He wanted to go get payback, but I showed him the way to really pay him back. After the police visit, the court trial, the lawyers and all, it cost that kid a couple grand for that punch. Show Steve the way of the wallet. Even better, send a link with commentary to the school. Show their principal what their "Student of the month" is writing. Let them see the "whole body of work" as GrandView puts it. I guess we should set Steve straight. Um, Steve, based on the way you write, I'm guessing you aren't too familiar with women outside mom and sister. After all, who wants to date a foul mouthed child? So I'll let you in on something. Kris with a K is kind of girly, because, Kris is a girl. Well a woman actually. You know, woman? curves? really cool breasts? hot dresses? Yeah! Them! Woman! Now you get it! I know, it's been a whlie. Your continual references to gay style sex tells me you haven't noticed them. That's ok. We don't judge here. In fact, I could set you up with my oldest! He just dumped his boyfriend. He'll fist with you if you like! As long as you're 18. He's not a congressman or senator yet! GrandView, it is too bad we don't discuss Karly's article. Because, like Kris said, it's typical "I know best so do as I say" junk. No, Karly is NOT right. She's not even close. Limits on playing will not stop someone from becomming an addict. Limit the play to a few hours a week and the addict will just go somewhere else to get the fix. Then there's the question of how do you limit the time? Have someone in the house with a clock? Require software to monitor everyones PC for poker? Yeah, that will work. As for the "more than a click to prove you're an adult" part, most sites realized years ago that anyone can pretend to be an adult. Get mom's credit card number and boom, you're in. So why bother with the extra programming? Just click "Yes, I'm 18" and go on. If they're going to lie on the check box, they will find a way around the other securities. Before he moved out, my son would use my computer. I had net nanny and spy buddy and he still got to "those sites". Never underestimate the ability of and underage person to get onto an "18 or above" site. As for her assertion that poker needs to become a pastime and not a vocation, what like baseball? No, wait, that pastime is a vocation. How about football? Oh, not that either... I could go on, but the fact is that as long as a payout of 3 million dollars and face time on ESPN are possible, poker is going to be a pastime vocation like the other sports. Get used to it. In 10 years, when her brain is fully functional (no insult intended, brains don't become fully functional until the 20's and some never do, just look at Pelosi), she will look at that letter with a laugh and think "What the heck was I thinking?" I can say that one based on experience. I keep my old articles and commentaries that I wrote in my teens and twenties. I laugh my rear off at them now. Ah, the simplicity of the immature brain. The real world sets you straight real quick. I don't think Kris meant to hurt Karly's feelings. Her main point was that if we are teaching kids that regulation and restriction are the way to fix society then, yeah, we're doomed. Kris is absolutely right. She should be. She's a 20 something with a fully functioning brain, and in the real world. That tends to give you perspective. |

| Themandownthehall is right.
