  • Where do you want to go?

       May 30, 2008

So, I'm getting a passport. Finally. While I have visions of places like the Maldives dancing in my head, realistically, I'll probably use it to go to somewhere like Canada or Mexico first. Ho hum. Why is fantasy trip planning so much more exciting than actual trip planning? Obviously it all comes down to time and money. So, if neither was a consideration, where would you go?

You just got a passport, where are you going?
    Australia
    Brazil
    Canada
    China
    Egypt
    England
    France
    Germany
    India
    Ireland
    Italy
    Japan
    Mexico
    Morocco
    New Zealand
    Poland
    Spain
    Tahiti
    Thailand
    Somewhere else

Lots of people picking Australia...which is somewhere I'd like to go, but why spend your first foreign vacation going to one of the countries least dissimilar to the USA? Might as well just go to Canada.

Thailand is also garnering some votes, and something I'd recommend. Easy enough to navigate without speaking the native language. Just email your hotel and have them send you the hotel address in the native language (or print it from the website). Once you're to your hotel, you're home free (assuming you're not staying in a dump). This applies to most foreign countries actually.

Philippines is even easier to navigate, and has beautiful beaches.
