So the same friend of a friend who posted the charming Press One for English video on Facebook, has a new one:
I'm no fan of Obama, but seriously? Do they really think they're fooling anyone? "The Great Reneger"? You're not being cute or clever, you're being racist.
It's funny, because I agree with a lot of the points in the video about Obama's broken promises, but it doesn't matter because every point you make is wiped out when you winkingly call a black President a "reneger".
Actually, it's not funny. It's sick and wrong and I am ashamed by it.

The people who created that song have a long & contrived story about how it's not racist. It ends with
One more thing, some folks have responded to the word "reneger", saying they feel it is veiled racism. Having been a missionary for 30 years and serving I served with folks of many different races as missionaries. I reject that accusation as a downright lie. The problem we have with the English language is that there are really only two words to describe Obama in all the promises he made, one is "liar" and the other is "reneger." In this song we are referring to the many promises that Obama made and then broke, thus making him a reneger, and because he broke so many, we dubbed him "The Great Reneger." Oh no, I don't think it's veiled racism, I think it's glaring racism. Mr. "I worship god so I couldn't possibly be racist" is a liar. He claims that only two words (liar & reneger) in the whooole english language describe president obama, yet he has a second version of the song, called "the great deceiver," available on his website. Why don't these people just admit their racism? Bunch of cowards if you ask me. |

| the great deceiver
the great liar the great falsifier the great fibber the great fabricator the great deluder the great dissimulator the great misleader the great perjurer hell, if they had just wanted to be subtly racist they could have gone with the great trickster, although i can understand why they didn't because the people they're trying to appeal to are probably too stupid to get it. |

| I am also too stupid to get it. Why is "great trickster" subtly racist? |
| # July 31st, 2010 9:19 AM kris |
| The "trickster" is a a common character in african-american literature |
| # July 31st, 2010 9:20 AM james |
| Ah. There are many articles out there calling him a trickster. |

| None of your words, Kris, are synonomous with renege.
Who cares if he's a reneger, all politicians are. Call him out for being a Marxist. |

| They're close enough.
The problem isn't with criticizing the President, it's with choosing this particular word so they can be racist while claiming not to be. |

| You may be correct, Kris. But the administration declared war on these people with its' choice of people and actions, namely collectivism. This country was uccessful by allowing individuals to exercise their own beliefs within the loose framework of the federal government. Now it's my way or the highway. Obama is legitimizing racism and may wind up being the worse thing ever to happen to race relations in this country |
| # July 31st, 2010 9:36 AM kris |
| how is Obama legitimizing racism? You've described a myriad of things to legitimately criticize the President for, yet that's not good enough and so people just get to fall back on racism? That makes no sense. |

| Obama ran and continues to run on his race. Just this week he made his own "mongrel people" and "we know it better" remarks. If those were made by a white man about whites there would have been riots. Look at Shithead Shirley Sherrod and her ilk. He wants to be a racial president and this is the flipside of it. Antone who takes credit for the sunshine should except the blame for the rain. |

| So call him an empty suit or bitch that he won the election because of race or complain that he plays the race card too much. None of those things are stooping to the level of what this video says. |

| But they are the cause of it. |
| # July 31st, 2010 10:10 AM kris |
| Who cares? Does that make it right? If you're looking for a justification to use racist rhetoric you're not going to find it here. |

| The World Wide Web - letting people show the inner workings of their racist hearts and minds since 1989. |

| I haven't used any racial rhetoric, but the justification has been provided. The democrats have played racial politics for decades. This is the endgame. It's a double edged sword and after beating others with it they are now going to get hit with that other edge.
I'll give the NAACP some credit. After an idiotic attack on the Tea Parties (so petty, partisan and out of place that I think it was likely requested by the administration) they quickly realized it isn't in their interest to hook their wagon to one horse, and a lame one at that. They back tracked and in doing so kept open a door for the future. That's way more speed, maturity and competence than the entire administration has ever exhibited. If they can continue that they might be the means by which fences are mended. |
| # July 31st, 2010 10:33 AM kris |
| their is no justification for racist rhetoric. the fact that you think the Dems have "started it" isn't a justification.
like i said, there is plenty to criticize Obama for. Call him an idiot, a socialist, a marxist, Hitler, whatever, I don't care. Just don't use racist words. |
| # July 31st, 2010 10:47 AM BVBigBro |
| And their inner Marxist, too James. Don't forget that.
Only Nixon could go to China, Kris, and only the Democrats can stop the race wars. |

| The problem with your throwing terms like "Marxist" around is that I have no idea what you're talking about because I'm not even sure you understand them. According to you, anyone who supports something you don't like is a Marxist, or a socialist, or just doesn't understand economics on the incredibly high level that you do. You've got race relations all figured out, and you're a Constitutional Law scholar. Hell, you even know everything there is to know about the Patent system. Oh, and business. I almost forgot business.
It's one thing to seek debate or discussion, but it's quite another to tell everyone else that they're just plain wrong when they disagree with you. Or call them names, like "Marxist." "I think X because of reason Y and Z." "WELL THAT'S SIMPLY MARXIST!" Pretty weak. You're not seeking debate or discussion, or to learn, only to spew your view of the world. Which, I'm sorry to inform you, is based on an incredibly flawed understanding of history, law, facts, and reason. Kinda hard to argue with that. |

| I'm not going to try to peer into the hearts of the people putting it up. It may be racism or may not. Either way, it's freaking stupid. They *HAD* to know that it would be blown out and called racist. So now, any chance they had at getting their message out is gone in the rhetoric.
It's like when that dude in California used the word "niggardly" in a speech. Yes, it does mean miserly or cheaply, but why not use miserly. Instead people went bat bleep crazy over it and any message was lost. Same thing here. Renege: to go back on one's word: He has reneged on his promise. Synonyms: back out, back pedal. Yes, he's the great back pedaler... Makes the case and if you sing pedaler in 2 beats instead of 3 it even sounds better than reneger. |

| It's 2010. Calling someone racist now carries as much weight as calling someone a Jacobin. That's the consequence of racial politics. What we're witnessing now is just the continuation of the tantrum stage from people who see the continuing change around them and suspect they are about to lose control after things sort themselves out.
Sorry, James, but the NAACP appears to have made it past the tantrum stage in one flying leap. I'll cast my lot with them if they intend to follow through. |
