Gray Wolf No Longer Endangered
A lawsuit filed last week by three animal rights groups seeks to put the gray wolf back on the federal endangered species list. The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation calls the suit “absurd,” and the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation urged the state to join with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to help fight the suit. Both federations are right.

The gray wolf is one of the great success stories of federal laws to protect wildlife and the endangered species program. On the verge of disappearing from its home in the North Woods of Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota, the wolf has since rebounded to an astonishing degree. So much so that the feds delisted the wolf and handed off management of the species to state agencies last month.
