 | Fuel reportedly offers Idol's Chris Daughtry a job as its lead singer
| | American Idol 5 frontrunner Chris Daughtry impressed the judges and the public with his rendition of “Hemorrhage” by Fuel last week. And he also impressed Fuel, so much so that they’ve reportedly offered him a job as their lead singer.
Jeff Abercrombie, the group’s bass player, told Extra that Chris did “a great job. This guy delivered. And he delivered like he’d written the song himself.” The band’s lead singer, Brett Scallions, left the group early in February. And following Chris’ performance, Randy Jackson told Access Hollywood that “Chris just got offered to be in the band Fuel, the lead singer is gone so they are trying to get it together.” go to story | ...

1. suck it up real bad this week and get voted out
2. commit a minor crime and get kicked off the show
3. find a really good lawyer and try to get out of his contract
4. get a "Free Chris" website started where his fans will vow NOT to vote for him
It's not like Fuel is the biggest band in the world or anything, but after the way AI ruined Bo and tried to ruin Kelly's career (From Justin to Kelly anyone?) the best thing for Chris to do would be to get far, far away from the folks at 19E |
| # March 12th, 2006 9:56 AM BVBigBro | I saw Fuel back in the 90s in Colorado. They were pretty good. |
| # March 12th, 2006 10:12 AM kris | I read somewhere that one of his favorite bands is Live, so your suggestion of "Lightning Crashes" is right on the mark. I'd also like to see him sing Candlebox.
He really should try to get out of the show, if he can. I'd miss watching him, but I think it'd be better for his career. |
| # March 12th, 2006 3:02 PM james | he's been trying to make it as a solo artist for over 10 years and has gone nowhere. he goes on idol for a few weeks and already has alleged offers. yet you think that his getting off of the show is "better for his career?" that makes no sense.
first, he's contractually bound - if not for the exposure on idol, he'd have retired at age 70 with 50 long years of experience as a service technician. idol gives him a huge opportunity yet you think that he should/should be able to just weasel his way out of his agreement now that it's benefited him? contracts don't work like that. he has an obligation to uphold his end of the bargain, both a legal and a moral obligation.
second, even if he could get out of the contract, why would he want to? the ai producers have far many more industry connections than does the band "fuel."
third, if he's really already had a job offer, after only a few weeks, why stop here and now? why jump at the first offer that comes along? increased exposure brought him this offer. it stands to reason then that even more exposure will bring better offers, doesn't it?
fourth, if he's really so great, he'll have no trouble making it as a solo artist. what does he need the band fuel for? why should he step in and become fuel-guy-II when he could be his own persona?
(ps - fifth - how's that new mario vasquez album ? ) |
| # March 12th, 2006 3:08 PM BVBigBro | Nice, but as far as we know, Chris is just a singer. Fuel's songwriter remains with the band, hence the nice fit. |
| # March 12th, 2006 3:15 PM kris | first, of course he's contractually bound, but the thought is that since Fuel's label and AI are part of the same parent company it's something that could happen if all parties really wanted it...Fuel wants Chris, the record company wants to sell more Fuel records, Chris wants to be in the band, etc. Of course, there's not a lot in it for AI, which is why it won't happen.
second, the AI producers made Bo make a record he didn't want to. his band wasn't even allowed to be on it. they are not in the business of building someone's career, they're in the business of making a quick buck off the AI folks while they can. i'm not really criticizing them for it, i'm just saying that's the way it is.
third, good point, he probably could do better
fourth, maybe he doesn't want to be Chris Daughtry, American Idol--maybe what he really wants is to be a guy in a successful band. he tried it and it didn't work for him until he went on AI, but does that mean he should give up his original dream? |
